Bissonette Housing Coordinator

Annual Salary: $45,000

Position Summary

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for the successful placement of clients enrolled in the Bissonnette House Transitional Residence Program into safe, stable, and affordable living arrangements. The Housing Coordinator provides professional and empowering services to clients, landlords, and other community and governmental agencies; promoting the programming offered by the agency as well as providing housing support services and referrals for residents.  The Housing Coordinator must be an active liaison for clients, as well as possess a demonstrated ability to network with outside agencies to meet clients’ housing needs and promote opportunities provided by the community and Peaceprints of WNY.   

  

The Housing Coordinator will develop and maintain a Housing Resources Guide to be made available to Bissonnette House residents. Through targeted and focused outreach, the Housing Coordinator will work to expand the organization’s economic impact by empowering residents to advocate for fair housing options, raising awareness and advocacy throughout the community regarding fair housing and housing options for the formerly incarcerated.  
 

Essential Functions

  • Develop housing networks, establish, and maintain relationships with community service agencies, public and private housing sectors.  

  • Develop & maintain a Reentry Housing Resource guide to be made available to program residents.  

  • Develop and review resident Housing Plan throughout a clients’ tenure.  

  • Work closely with the Transition Coordinator to coordinate permanent, stable housing in conjunction with resident goals.   

  • Develop and maintain a referral network for housing services and identify new contacts and resources in response to resident needs.  

  • Ensure clients work to develop suitable, permanent housing.  

  • Explore options for rental subsidies, supervision requirements and individual needs and build a plan to fulfill those requirements.  

 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a B.A. degree. B.S.W/M.S.W degrees preferred.   

  • At least two years’ experience working in a program or organization serving high-risk individuals.  

  • Interest in the social justice, legal advocacy, prisoner reentry, and/or Fair Chance Hiring.  

  • Experience with individuals and groups related to case management, therapy, or counseling.  

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ideal candidate will be a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

Other Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle to use in performance of job. Position requires some travel within the City of Buffalo.  

  • Must be able to pass criminal background and child and adult maltreatment screens and a preemployment drug screen.

  • Work time may be evenly split between office settings or outside meetings.  Limited local travel is required.  Light physical effort in an office environment
